Age doesn’t determine curiosity.
It doesn’t define adaptability, resilience or the ability to learn.
Yet experienced professionals are still too often judged through the lens of outdated assumptions.
That they’re less comfortable with technology.
That they’re resistant to change.
That they’ll struggle in fast-moving workplaces.
Or that they’re simply counting down the days to retirement.
My experience has shown me the opposite.
The most capable people I’ve worked with – across every generation – shared the same qualities: curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to delivering results.
Those qualities don’t belong to one age group.
Experience adds something valuable that can’t be downloaded or taught overnight: perspective. It helps people navigate uncertainty, mentor others, solve problems and remain calm when the pressure is on.
And yes, I still know how to use technology without panicking when the Wi-Fi drops.
Perhaps it’s time we stopped judging people by assumptions and started recognising them by their contribution.
