There’s a lot of pressure to have your career “figured out.”

But in reality, certainty is often overrated.

The people who build interesting, fulfilling careers rarely started with a perfect plan.

They stayed curious.

Instead of trying to map everything out upfront, they treated their careers more like a series of experiments.

  • Trying a short course.
  • Taking on a project outside their usual scope.
  • Having conversations with people in roles they hadn’t considered.

Not because they had all the answers, but because they were open to finding them.

Each step gives you useful information.

  • What energises you.
  • What drains you.
  • What you’re naturally good at.
  • What you’d rather leave behind.

That’s the kind of clarity you can actually build on.

In coaching, this is often the shift; moving from trying to “figure it all out” to exploring more deliberately.

Because the better question isn’t: “What should I do forever?”

It’s: “What am I curious enough to try next?”

You don’t need a long-term blueprint to move forward.

You just need a direction that’s worth exploring.

Start there.
