Your Comfort Zone Is Costing You

Comfort zones are subtle.

They don’t feel like a problem – they feel manageable, predictable, even productive.

But over time, they can quietly stall your growth.

If you’ve been doing the same things, in the same way, for a while, there’s a good chance you’re no longer being stretched.

And standing out rarely comes from staying comfortable.

It usually comes from doing the things most people avoid:

  • asking for honest feedback
  • sharing an idea that might not land
  • applying for a role that feels slightly out of reach

Not because these are big moves, but because they’re uncomfortable.

And that discomfort is often a signal you’re moving in the right direction.

One question I come back to often in coaching is: “What are you avoiding right now?”

The answer is usually a clue to where your next opportunity sits.

Growth doesn’t require a complete overhaul.

More often, it’s a small, intentional step outside your usual pattern.

  • Sending the email.
  • Starting the conversation.
  • Putting yourself forward.

So if something’s been sitting in the back of your mind for a while, consider this your nudge.

It might matter more than you think.
